Brazilian Passport Information |
All US citizens must obtain in advance a passport and visa from the Brazilian embassy or consulate. There are no airport visas allowed. Immigration agents refuse anyone w/o a valid visa. The visa must be used within 90 days of issuance date or it will no longer be valid. US government agents cannot assist travelers who arrive in Brazil without proper documentation. In response to the US-VISIT program, on Jan 2004, the government of Brazil began photographing and fingerprinting all US citizens arriving in Brazil. Expect long delays, up to several hours. Give yourself plenty of time to transfer, if necessary. In the first 6 weeks of 2004, two US citizens were fined (on aver. $15,000) for making obscene gestures during photographing.
